YGH Architecture Office

The new YGH office located in downtown Portland’s Union Bank Building transforms a former law office into a bright, open environment that reflects the design team’s focus on collaboration. The office design is a culmination of the firm’s plan to transition to a space that better reflects how it operates in serving the architecture and interior design needs of its clients worldwide.

The office occupies the entire twelfth floor of the 1969 designed International-Style building. The floor and walls of the elevator bay are paneled in dark, rich hardwood which has been locally reclaimed from transpacific shipping crates. The hardwood element ushers the user through a sleek, contemporary lobby and onward into the 10,000 sf space, which features an open floor plan, allowing for unobstructed views throughout the studio from any individual’s work area. Perimeter conference areas and innovation zones further enhance collaboration. In addition to pinnable wall space, which abounds throughout the open office, collaboration spaces feature floor-to-ceiling, magnetic dry-erase walls for sketching and project visioning.

Eight-foot tall windows flood the office space with light, while offering commanding views of the city and surrounding Pacific Northwest landscape. Two ceiling-hung panels of German-milled wood design felt extend from the lobby bay through the office, creating an informal, flexible reception and gallery space.
