YGH developed construction documents and provided construction administration for the American Cultural Center in Rangoon. The facility is designed to provide library, classroom, multi-purpose space, media rooms and a café for Burmese citizens studying American language and culture. Regional materials are employed throughout the facility in order to maintain a connection with Burmese culture and context. Fine filigree screens filter sunlight, allow views to the exterior, subdivide interior space and recall patterns of Pantaut and Panyan masonry craft. YGH succeeded in developing the project after three other teams failed to develop a viable solution. The project was designed to meet LEED Gold requirements.
