Oregon State University’s ten year old Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) has quickly outgrown its space in Magruder Hall as caseloads have increased by 15 percent per year.  Resulting bottlenecks have forced the teaching hospital to turn away potential clients while preventing increased enrollment and the addition of needed specialty services.

YGH Architecture was selected to design a 20,000 SF expansion and renovation, consisting of three separate additions to Magruder Hall. The first addition is a free-standing lecture hall, the second is a 2-story exam and office suite addition, and the third is a shell space that includes a linear accelerator.

The project program includes expanded space for additional exam rooms, kennels, and wards, along with space to move cardiology and oncology into a new wing.  The new oncology space will house a linear accelerator, which is necessary equipment for providing radiation therapy for cancer patients. This service is not currently readily available for large animals anywhere on the west coast between Seattle and Davis, California.

This project will directly improve the educational experience of veterinary students by providing improved instructional space and laboratories.
